It's the New Year and a time for reflecting on what changes we want to make for the coming year.
Speaking in public can be something that strikes fear into the hearts of many - infact 80% of the population don't enjoy it. However, it is something that we all use every day no matter what our role in life. It could be giving feedback, speaking in a meeting, speaking to colleagues or giving a presentation - whatever you do there is a good chance your role will involve speaking!
It can be really hard to get feedback on your public speaking and to practice in a safe and friendly environment without being hampered by fear of failure.
Toastmasters, a worldwide speaking club network, was set up to provide just such spaces. Meetings where members could practice their skills, get feedback and work through a speaking program designed to build their knowledge and experience.
North Highland Speakers is the most Northerly Toastmasters club in the UK and it has another unique quality. Not only do meetings take place in Dingwall each month but they also take place online. Members and guests can join by video conference developing another key skill.
Membership of North Highland Speakers is usually £45 per 6 months, plus an initial £20 joining fee. However, there are 12 memberships available at North Highland Speakers for anyone wishing to try the club out for free for 3 months.
Come along to our meeting on January 17th 6.30-8.30pm at the Theological College in Dingwall or join us online to try a meeting for yourself.
You will make some new contacts and realise that there is no need to fear speaking in public.
